United States’ Africa Command and Maritime Security in the Gulf of Guinea, 2007 – 2020

This study examined the impact of US Africa Command on maritime security in Gulf Guinea West Africa, between 2007 and 2020, with specific emphasis core challenges Africa. The was anchored World Systems Theory, while data were generated using documentary survey methods. Data collected analysed content analysis. found that include piracy, armed robbery, drug trafficking. It also insecurity has remained endemic Guinea, despite establishment Command. locates limited effectiveness AFRICOM mitigating to its without adequate consultation African leaders which triggered suspicion resistance among countries Guinea. posits geostrategic importance sub-regional U.S government’s strategic interest. study, therefore, recommends, others, U.S. government should strengthen inter-state collaboration through existing agencies sub-region.
